Summary

Roland Krebs is an urban planner, strategist and designer from Vienna (Austria) who develops integrated action plans for cities to tackle urban growth (or shrinkage). As consultant to multi-lateral development organisations, municipalities, city-regions and metropolitan areas, Roland has gained international experience in urban planning and design projects in Europe, Latin America and the Caribbean, Central and South Asia and Subsaharan Africa.

Roland supports public institutions in search for the development of sustainable urban projects. He is experienced in participatory and dialogue-oriented planning techniques in the context of urban regeneration, development of strategy plans, masterplans, mobility and public space projects. As a consultant he is experienced in effectively managing complex multi-stakeholder projects and urban programs. Notably, he has successfully executed numerous projects concurrently in various urban programs, showcasing his efficient parallel working stream performing participatory urban planning and design

Roland studied urban and regional planning at the Vienna University of Technology (TU WIEN) and graduated in Strategic Management (MBA) at the Universidad de Belgrano (UB) in Argentina, before receiving a postgraduate degree about Integrated Urban Regeneration of Historic City Centers at Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (UOC) in Barcelona (Spain) in cooperation with Oficina del Historiador de La Habana (Cuba).

Between 2020-22, Roland was Lead Expert of the URBACT Action Planning Network (APN) RiConnect, also, he is co-author of the URBACT Walk'n'Roll Cities guidebook. Before that, Roland was ad-hoc expert at the URBACT Transfer Network "Temporary Use as Tool for Urban Regeneration" (TUTUR) and the URBACT Action Planning Network "Global Goals for Cities". Roland coordinated the Vienna partnership of the URBACT Action Planning Network "sub>urban - Reinventing the Fringe" as local expert between 2015-17.

In the academic field, Roland has vast academic experience in teaching urban planning and design at the TU WIEN in Vienna (2012-21), in 2022 at the University of Art and Design in Linz, and since 2022 he is a lecturer of urban planning and design at the University of Applied Sciences FH Campus Architecture and Green Buildings in Vienna.
 
Roland is a member of the chambers of architects and engineers in Vienna and Berlin. Roland is a co-founder of superwien urbanism zt gmbh and board member of wonderland platform for European architecture. Roland is co-editor and co-author of the books "Future Public Spaces - Urban Design in Times of Crisis" and the "MetroLAB - Metropolitan Design as a New Discipline", both published at Jovis, Berlin in 2023.
